The peaceful village of Moelfre, which sits on the North East coast of Anglesey comes to life at this wonderful annual event which raises funds for the RNLI.

Thousands of people flock to the small harbour area to watch the Moelfre RNLI Tamar class lifeboat Kiwi and her crew put on an exciting display. Since the 1960’s the RAF have been bringing their search and rescue helicopter to take part in the re-enactment of a sea rescue mission in the bay. Sadly this is the first year that their faithful partner the RAF Sea King helicopter will not be attending, following privatisation of the service earlier this year, but it is hoped that the new Coastguard helicopter will make an appearance in its place.

Moelfre, is a picturesque maritime village located in the Dulas and Lligwy area of Anglesey – a beautiful stretch of coastline boasting lots of unique history. There is plenty to see and do in this quaint fishing village during this bustling event, with a wide range of stalls selling local produce and crafts, as well as live music and children’s activities.

In February this year, the lifeboat crew moved into their new £10m lifeboat station which was built to house their new state of the art vessel – lifeboat Kiwi. The new station is located on the same site as the old boathouse, from which the RNLI have been operating since the 1830’s. Classed as an ‘explore station’ the new facility allows visitors to pop in and look around or even pre-book a tour.

Moelfre Lifeboat Day is a fantastic community effort to raise much needed funds for the RNLI lifeboat station and its crew. Currently they are trying to reach their target of £100,000, to equip a new mechanics workshop at the station, so they can keep their new vessel in perfect order and ensure safer sea rescues for long into the future.

Activities will start at 10am on August 15th 2015 in the harbour area of the village, and the lifeboat display will begin at 1pm.

I stayed at the hotel with my husband and 2 children 8 and 10. The room was comfortable, large and spotless, the communal spaces in the hotel had character and charm and the breakfast was excellent. The staff were friendly and efficient and the swimming pool a real added bonus. The proximity to the town was a wonderful bonus - 5 minutes walk to the castle and main square. Yes the decor in the room is a little dated, but this hotel represents fantastic value for money. There is so much to do in the area, it's a great base to climb Snowdon and visit the Zip World centres. We didn't have time to visit the Welsh Mountain Zoo or do the Railway - two nights in the area just wasn't enough. we can't wait to go again!
